Gaining insight on children’s insights
Activity: Talk or presentation types › Invited talk
Invited talk at the Departmental Research Seminar series at the Department of Psychology at Lancaster University.
Abstract:
Aha-experiences, also known as insight, are moments of sudden realization that can have profound implications for learning (e.g., Wiley & Danek, 2024). This talk draws on recent research to explore three key questions about children’s insights: 1) Do young children experience sudden insight? 2) How do children’s sudden insights relate to cognitive development? 3) To what extent do children recognize and understand their own insight experiences? The talk situates insight alongside other epistemic feelings and addresses methodological challenges in studying young children’s insights.
