This talk provides an overview of my work on technologies for emotional awareness and regulation, with an emphasis on the value the human body in these processes. It outlines award winning research described in TOCHI journal, CHI and DIS publications including a systematic review of HCI work on affective health technologies, several prototypes designed and evaluated with my research group and collaborators such as AffectiveHealth wearable system, smart materials interfaces, ThermoPixels toolkit for personalizing and hybrid crafting of arousal-based interfaces, and an exploration of vibrotactile interfaces for affect regulation. The talk articulates the value of this body of work for novel design implications for technologies aimed to support emotional awareness and regulation. Most of the research described in the talk has been supported by the AffecTech: Personal technologies for affective health, an EC-funded Innovative Training Network.
