“We can’t build what we can’t imagine… the fact that we haven’t compellingly imagined a thriving, dynamic, sustainable world is a major reason we don’t already live in one.” Alex Steffen

Sustainable Design Fiction Studio

Climate change is the most important issue of our time so it is critical we start to move towards more sustainable ways of life. Sustainable Design Fiction is a method that enables designers to imagine and visualise ideas for a more sustainable future, particularly with relation to emerging technologies and digitalisation.

This 3-day studio introduced students to the concept of Sustainable Design Fiction and helped them to begin to apply the technique to produce a range of sustainable prototypes which challenge today's unsustainable status quo while also envisioning ways for society to move toward ethical, responsible and sustainable technological adoption and implementation.
