Witch Hunts in the 21st Century public workshop

Activity: Talk or presentation typesPublic Lecture/ Debate/Seminar

26/09/2024

We hosted an interactive workshop at the Peter Scott Gallery at Lancaster University, bringing together members of the local community to explore the history and contemporary relevance of witchcraft accusations and witch hunts.
The event opened with a group discussion, where participants shared their perspectives on the enduring stereotypes surrounding witchcraft and how these perceptions have evolved—or persisted—over time. Attendees were then given the opportunity to visit our exhibition, ‘Witch Hunts Now: A Human Rights Catastrophe’, which highlights the global and ongoing persecution tied to accusations of witchcraft. As they moved through the gallery, participants reflected on the powerful images, learning about the stories behind them.
The combination of open discussion and visual engagement fostered a meaningful dialogue on how these issues remain pressing human rights concerns today.
