At the invitation of the British Council, Professor Charles Alderson made a whirlwind tour of four countries in East Asia in late April, giving eight presentations and lectures in eleven days.

After presenting papers and taking part in a panel discussion at the annual Regional Language Centre (RELC) Conference in Singapore and meeting with Ministry of Education officials to discuss the testing of oracy, he travelled to Kuala Lumpur, where he discussed school-based assessment with Malaysian Education Ministry officials.

He then took part in a British Council-organised conference on language testing in Jakarta, Indonesia and subsequently went to Seoul, South Korea to discuss Korean school-leaving examination reform with officials from the Ministry of Education and the Korean Institute of Curriculum and Evaluation.
