Press/Media: Research

Description

Ruth is invited to present a paper in a panel on Discourse Theory and Qualitative Research (Tuesday, September 21), and to participate in a plenary discussion, which takes place as final event at this conference.

More information is to be found below:

The ESA Research Network Qualitative Methods will hold its Mid-term Conference at Bayreuth University. We are expecting around 90 participants from more than 12 countries to work on the challenges and opportunities for the future of Qualitative Research in Europe. The programme includes two plenary sessions with outstanding experts in Qualitative Research from throughout the continent who will discuss with scientists from Latin America, Africa and the United States. The debate will centre on the challenges of an emerging European Research Space and the role, Qualitative Research can play in it.

In addition, twelve thematic sessions have been organized with a total of 48 presentations which will examine the contribution of Qualitative Methods to several substantial areas of social research, ranging from Migration, New Technologies, Contemporary Religion, Social Memory, Africa, Ethnography, Urban and Community Research, Discourse Studies, to Grounded Theory.

The keynote speech will be given by David Silverman (London), followed by a laudation to Thomas Eberle (St. Gall), former Chair of the Research Network Qualitative Methods and current Vice-President of the European Sociological Association.

The complete conference programme can be accessed here.
