European Research Project on Childbirth Organisations

Dr Celia Roberts and Dr Imogen Tyler have been awarded a 150k European grant (7th Framework Science and Society) to undertake research on childbirth organisations in the UK. This research project forms part of a large grant entitled "EPOKS" - European Patient Organizations in Knowledge Society coordinated by CSI (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines, Paris) with research teams from University of Coimbra, the University of Cork and Durham University. The EPOKS project seeks to investigate the contribution of patient organizations to the production of knowledge and to the governance of knowledge production through a comparative approach of four health conditions (rarediseases; childbirth; Alzheimer's ; and Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity.

Celia and Imogen will be appointing a senior research fellow to work with them on this project. It will bebased in the Sociology Department and the Centre for gender and Women's Studies and will runfrom February 2009 - January 2012.
