Press/Media: Research
JTP Studio hosted the launch of the "Local Soils: Model Policy and Guide," a new resource developed as part of interdisciplinary research to help local authority planners integrate soil sustainability into their local plans and decision-making processes. This initiative, led by Lancaster University, is the product of collaboration among over 50 planning, construction, and environmental professionals, coordinated by the Soils in Planning & Construction Task Force. The guide aims to counteract the alarming rate at which the UK construction sector degrades soil, promoting sustainable practices as a critical response.
Funded research by the UKRI Impact Acceleration Award, it seeks to embed soil sustainability within planning and construction processes. The Model Policy and Guide were co-created over a year-long over a collaborative design process led by Mirian Calvo and builds upon a previous report, "Building on Soil Sustainability," produced in collaboration with Lancaster University, Lancaster City Council, and Cornwall Council.
