Preston philosopher, Brandon Taylorian, known as Cometan will debut his own philosophy this May in Penwortham. His event ‘The Future of Religion’ will take place at Penwortham Arts Centre ‘The Venue’, and he will talk publicly about Astronism – his own form of philosophy. During the event the 21-year-old will explore the deep history between astronomy, philosophy and religion. Further to that he will propose what the future of religion may look like. The event will be split into three key areas – starting with the historical relationship between astronomy and religion. He will demonstrate the existence of a long undermined and under-researched religious tradition that he has named the Astronic tradition.
Following this, his lecture will delve into him introducing Astronism. This is a form of new religious movement and philosophy that he dedicated himself to the founding of from the age of 15. Cometan will use this time to explain the main beliefs surrounding Astronism and how it relates to prehistoric astronomical religions. Closing the lecture, he will explore the question of what religion may look like in the future. He will be drawing from the ideas such as religious commercialisation and the rise of atheism and irreligiousity. Cometan will explore astrospirtuality and the role that religion has within space.
