Description

Discussion of Labour's proposals regarding employment rights.

The details are still being worked out but they are proposing a raft of protections to make work more secure eg:

Zero-hour ban - which we suggest has to include guaranteed hours for all workers, who can then work flexibly if they wish from that basis.

They are also talking about:

Day one protections

A fire and rehire stronger code of practice

Self-employment rights

Single worker status

Whilst some of the measures may sound bold, these are not dissimilar to what the current Government was exploring back in 2017 as part of the Taylor Review of Modern Working practices. They would also bring us more in line with other countries: among 22 OECD countries The UK ranks second to bottom on protections for temporary workers.

They are also proposing improvements on Flexible working

A right to switch off

Family friendly rights

And proposals to support more healthy and safe workplaces
