Organisation profile

The Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) was founded in 2003 as a research centre with the primary objective of consolidating Lancaster’s position as a leading international centre of excellence in interdisciplinary research in Management, Social Sciences and the Arts and Humanities.

IAS now has a remit that covers the whole research portfolio of the University. The emphasis is on the facilitation and encouragement of multi-disciplinary approaches to significant national and international issues. It is also a forum by which the of the University can be brought to the attention of a wider range of external individuals and organizations.
