Former Research Student

Research overview

My principal research interests are in the field of contemporary environmental debates from an Islamic perspective, in both Islamic states and non-Islamic countries like the UK. For my PhD I am currently investigating how Muslim Environmental Organisations in England are responding to social and political movements of environmentalism, using qualitative research techniques including ethnography, semi -structured interviews, visual representation and supporting documentation.  My future research plans are to build on the foundations of my PhD to further analyze how the diverse Islamic tradition influences environmental concern.  I have particular expertise and interests in global environmental problems, environmental sociology, environmental philosophy and also quantitative research techniques.
