Paula Moraga-Serrano

Lancaster University

United Kingdom

I am a Senior Research Associate in Spatial Statistics in the CHICAS research group at Lancaster University. Previously I held academic positions at Queensland University of Technology, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and Harvard School of Public Health.

My research focuses on spatial and spatio-temporal statistics and their applications to health surveillance. Specifically, I develop statistical methods and software to explore the spatial and temporal patterns of disease, determine their association with potential risk factors, and allow rapid detection of outbreaks. Applications include modelling of lymphatic filariasis in sub-Saharan Africa, leptospirosis in Brazil, and cancer in Australia. I am author of SpatialEpiApp, a Shiny web application for the analysis of spatial and spatio-temporal disease data, and co-author of epiflows, an R package for travel related spread of disease.

I received my Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and my Doctorate degree in Statistics from the University of Valencia, Spain, and my Master's degree in Biostatistics from the Harvard School of Public Health.
