The primary focus of my research is the link between ageing and vulnerability to deception. As a collaborative project with AgeUK, my research explores whether our lie detection ability gets worse as we age.

My thesis, entitled "Older adults’ vulnerability to deception: causes and intervention", examines baseline lie detection performance across two age groups: 18-40 and 55+. It will later explore potential underlying reasons for vulnerability to deception, including cognitive factors, levels of social support, and attentional processes. On the basis of the results, the aim is to design a lie detection training programme to counteract any vulnerability and to test whether this programme works.
