Guide to Cumbrian Historical Sources

Project: Other

Cumbria is fortunate to have a wide and varied range of archives available to the local, family and house historian. This book introduces the new (and not so new) researcher to the extensive range of archive sources relating to Cumbria and, for the first time, brings them together in a directory of the main publicly accessible collections held in the record offices, libraries, museums and other organisations. It also includes descriptions of those in neighbouring counties and an introductory guide to online resources and catalogues.

The Authors

Michael Winstanley is Senior Lecturer in History at Lancaster University where he specialises in the history of North-West England. He is a member of the North West Regional Archive Council, Academic Advisory Committee for Centre for North West Regional Studies, and Friends of Cumbria Archives.

Rob David has lived and worked in Cumbria for over 30 years and has taught local history at adult, undergraduate and school levels as well as publishing widely on aspects of the history of Cumbria. He is currently an Honorary Fellow in the History Department at Lancaster University and is a member of the Friends of Cumbria Archives.
