Improving the quality of student learning through school farms

Project: Research

Description

This research is based on a participative learning project funded by the FASS Knowledge Exchange Fellowship programme. The research was undertaken as a follow-up to a national survey of school farms carried out in 2012 by the Department of Educational Research team and ended in July 2013. It involved training groups of school students in six participating schools in research methods and supporting them in their investigation of the experience of having a farm as part of the school. The project partner was the School Farm Network (there are some 100 schools in the UK with school farms). The transformative dimension lies in both the substantive issues that were explored by the school teams and in the process of engaging in school based research.
