This file explains all of the variables in the dataset that accompanies: Magoolagan et al. (2018) "The effect of early life conditions on song traits in male dippers Cinclus cinclus" dataset : Magoolaganetal2018September2018EarlyLifeDipper.csv id = The idenfitication code for each bird used in the analysis syl = syllable diversity, number of unique syllables used within 10 songs analysed song = song rate, number of complete songs recorded within a 30 minute observation period vers = versatility, calculated from (unique syllables used/total syllables used) within a song, and then averaged across 10 songs brdstg = breeding stage, the breeding stage of the bird at the time of recording. "1" = solo, "2" = pre-breeding, "3" = breeding. age = age of the bird at time of recording, "1" = first-year, "2" = adult. avprov = average provisioning rate from both parents, taken from three one hour observation sessions during the nestling period and averaged. brood = brood size, "0" = small, fewer than 4.39 nestlings; "1" = large, greater than 4.39 nestlings. d9tar = nestling tarsus measurement on day 9 d9wei = nestling body mass on day 9 For further details on each variable, see Magoolagan et al, "The effect of early life conditions on song traits in male dippers Cinclus cinclus", 2018 PLOS One.
