Activity: Talk or presentation typesInvited talk

6/05/2013

The John Carter Brown Library, Providence, RI, USA, is the repository for a 1667 manuscript map of the British settlement in Surinam which was ceded to the Dutch in that year. In 2011, Barber took a journey on a bauxite tug-boat down the three major rivers of Surinam and into the rain-forest interior with the 1667 map in hand and recreated both the nature of Surinam in 1667 and its legacy in the 21st century.
