Research overview

I focus on understanding the fluid mechanics of physical volcanic processes such as flow of lava on the surface, movement of magma at depth, and dispersal of volcanic products in explosive eruptions. I study these volcanic processes on Earth and on the other silicate bodies in our Solar System that are volcanically active now or have been so in the past, viz. Mars, Venus, Mercury, our Moon, Jupiter's satellite Io, and the very-early-forming differentiated asteroids.
