Research overview

My research involves investigating the potential of charge-coupled devices (CCDs) to perform in-situ detection and spectroscopy of α contamination. CCDs are pixel imaging devices and it has been seen that different types of radiation leave distinct tracks in the images produced under exposure to radiation. The sizes of these tracks are thought to relate to the energy of the incoming radiation, potentially allowing for both identification and spectroscopy through image processing. The advantage of CCDs for this task is their ability to be used in a small, hand-held device for in-situ use.
