2nd place in the BSA/Daily Telegraph Young Science Writer of the Year competition in 1993 (age 23-28 category). Judges that year included Lewis Wolpert and Mary Archer. My entry was entitled "The Fruitless Search for the Perfect Frog" and described my efforts to find an amphibian model system for developmental genetics.
