Abstract

We present theoretical results for the geometry-dependence of the electrical conductance of a phase-coherent two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG). As an example, we examine a staircase-shaped 2DEG formed from a periodic array of rectangular cells joined near their corners and compare the differential conductance G(E) at voltage V, with the density of states N(E) at energy E = eV. By evaluating the multi-channel Landauer formula, we demonstrate that near the band tails, geometry-induced structure persists, even in the presence of disorder.*
