In this paper we study the effect of traffic characteristics of the mobile users on the outage probability in multi-service CDMA. We use heavy tail distribution for the call durations instead of exponential distribution which is traditionally used. Then we show that the total received interference is asymptotically self-similar. Subsequently, using M/M/infinity modelling of access mechanism in CDMA cellular, we show that outage probability will increase due to self similarity in total interference. It shows that network designed with the Poisson assumption, will experience outage degradation when traffic has heavy tail call duration. Simulation results are also given and outage probability is shown to be increased compared to equivalent Poisson traffic.
