Blackburn Repair Space

Project: Consultancy

Description

FUNDING

Virgin Media O2/Hubbub: £55,300

Blackburn Repair Space will collect e-waste laptops from local organisations. We will use these devices to teach community members and young people repair skills. The laptops then will be donated to digitally excluded people (especially young people) within the borough and provide beneficiaries with digital literacy skills through training sessions, on-going support and signposting to other support available.

The project plan is based on our local research regards attitudes and expertise to electronic device repair as part of research projects with Imagination Design Research Lab / Lancaster University.

The project team comprises:

- Tom Macpherson-Pope, Director, The Making Rooms Blackburn
- Dr Michael Stead, Lecturer in Sustainable Design Futures, Lancaster University
- Hannah Allen, CEO, Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zones
- Phil Riley, Leader, Blackburn with Darwen Council
- Martin Kelly, Deputy Chief Executive, Blackburn with Darwen Council
- Quesir Mahmood, Deputy Leader, Blackburn with Darwen Council
- Sally Booth, Environmental Education Officer, Blackburn with Darwen Council
- Jonathan Bond, Head of School Creative & Digital, Blackburn College
