Policing cannabis factories and its relation to violent and organised crime

Project: Research

Description

Cannabis factories are used by organised criminal gangs to produce cannabis for the illegal drugs market. We are interested in the practice of reading and making sense of data/intelligence/evidence in order to establish a link between cannabis factories and violent crime. We define this as an integral and crucial part of the process of policing cannabis factories. We are interested in the perspectives of police officers in the field. What are their indicators for deciding that there is a clear relation with violent crime. For instance, do they look at the size of the factories, the professional equipment and similarity with other dismantled factories? Is there follow up research in relation to the gathered evidence, such as any relation with modern slavery and inhabitants forced to have their house used for the growth of cannabis?
