Building on E3 (Research England) 'Beyond Imagination'-funded research around Generative Artificial Intelligence (referred to as AI subsequently) and Digital Good, this project will leverage pre-existing relationships to produce a tool to support responsible and conscientious adoption of AI for Small-Medium Enterprises (SMEs)
Many challenges relating to responsible adoption of AI have arisen in our research/engagement events, presenting a clear pathway to impact. These include legal and regulatory issues such as data protection, displacement of jobs, and indirect considerations such as the training data provenance and environmental impact.
Based on testimony from our events as well as published research (Corrêa, et. al.) it is clear many businesses struggle to turn AI guidelines into practical solutions to help drive responsible adoption of AI.
Combining insights emerging from the Digital Good Network, the practical insights from AI Summit Northwest and knowledge gained from the training prepared for the East Cheshire Chamber of Commerce, this project will produce a practical tool to help SMEs make informed decisions about responsibly adopting AI.
The project will have three stages:
(1) Prototype a tool based on survey data, desk research, interviews with partners
(2) Test/Refine the prototype through participatory consultation with partners
(3) Disseminate the tool among partners, regionally, and nationally
