Decolonising Queer Artistic Space and Practice: Critical Dialogue with Asian-Art-Activism

Activity: Participating in or organising an event typesOther

31/05/2023

This discussion panel explores the intersection of race/ethnicity and queer artistic practices within the ESEA community and beyond in the current climate of post-Brexit xenophobia against East and Southeast Asians since the COVID-19 pandemic. The panel brings together artists from Asia-Art-Activism (AAA) who have been actively engaging with issues related to diaspora, queerness, body, memories, and marginality through their artistic practice and activism, including their first publication, Asia-Art-Activism: Experiments in Care and Collective Disobedience. The critical dialogue will focus on their experiences in decolonising artistic practices, creating safe queer spaces, contesting racial categories, and challenging stigmas and stereotypes through their creative artistic practices, including visual anthropology through virtual reality, drag king performances, and creating safe club spaces.
