The Royal Astronomical Society (RAS), founded in 1820, encourages and promotes the study of astronomy, solar-system science, geophysics and closely related branches of science.

Professor Jim Wild, of Lancaster University, will serve in the role as President Elect of the Royal Astronomical Society for 12 months, before succeeding current President Mike Lockwood following the conclusion of the latter's two-year term in May 2026.
