The Big Bang Fair 2013

Jim Wild was part of a team of Science and Technology staff and students from Lancaster University are heading down to London to enthuse and engage with thousands of visitors to the Big Bang Science Fair. The Big Bang is the largest celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths for young people in the UK. The event is aimed at showing young people (primarily aged 7-19) just how many exciting and rewarding opportunities there are out there for them with the right experience and qualifications. Through our national event (The Big Bang Fair) which happens at a different location in March every year, and through a series of regional and local events, we work with partner organisations across business and industry, government and academia to try and give a flavour of the real scale of engineering and science in the UK. Visitors at the Big Bang Science Fair had the opportunity to try out a new interactive particle pin ball machine that attempts to replicate some of the research being done by Physics staff at Lancaster University at the Large Hadron Collider. The Big Bang, at the London Excel Arena, ran from Thursday 14 March to Sunday 17 March with more than 65,000 visitors expected. It is the largest celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths for young people in the UK.
