Interrupted Education - Interrupted Life

Press/Media: Research

Description

Over the last 14 months, Dr Anita Wilson has been working on an ESRC funded research project which looks at the impact of the criminal justice system on the educational progress of young offenders. The examples of good practice around supporting these young men in education, training and employment that have emerged are heartening. But the key message is that the disruptive force of the criminal justice significantly interrupts the lives of many of these young people - prior to, during, and beyond their incarceration. The project began with its title of 'Interrupted Education' but listening to the voice and experiences of these young men required the addition of what they more aptly described as 'Interrupted Life'.The final report of the project will be launched on 2nd October 2009 and will be available on the project website.
