Lancaster University experts are collaborating with Lancaster City Council and Cornwall Council to enhance soil sustainability through a new project. Recognising the crucial role of soil in supporting green infrastructure, flood mitigation, and carbon sequestration, the project aims to integrate soil sustainability into local planning policies. Co-led by Professor Jessica Davies and Dr Mirian Calvo, the initiative received £32,000 funding to develop an policy model for local authorities to incorporate soil sustainability. This effort builds upon the Soils in Planning and Construction Task Force's work, with the goal to create better environmental and societal outcomes, as well as to be featured as a best practice case study in climate change planning.
