Mathematical physics encompasses a wide variety of topics that interface with other disciplines in pure mathematics. What they have in common is that they are motivated by a desire to understand a phenomenon arising in physics using mathematical tools. These tools include algebra, analysis, the theory of differential equations, geometry, probability and more.
