Research overview

My geomorphological research is primarily concerned with coastal change and its controlling processes.  This work has continued since the 1960s at Spurn Head and Holderness, East Yorkshire and around the coasts of NW England. During study leaves as a full time member of staff I worked on various research projects on the Tasmanian and North Queensland coasts of Australia.

Currently I am monitoring and attempting to explain changes along the coasts of the Kent Estuary, Morecambe Bay. By 2013 I have built up 30 years of mainly monthly records of saltmarsh erosion and channel changes at Silverdale as well as more recently 4 years of similar records for the western Grange-over-Sands shore.
