Research overview

My research interests are mainly within the fields of sociocultural and legal anthropology, with a particular focus on the peoples of Central America and the Caribbean. I take an interdisciplinary approach to research, placing a strong emphasis on ethnography to better understand the conflicts that occur between identity politics and colonial/post-colonial state formation & national/international law. My PhD research was conducted with the Garifuna community in Belize and focussed on their struggle to receive tangible recognition as an indigenous people and mobilise around associated rights.
