Anna Kumacheva is a PhD in Film student in Lancaster Institute of Contemporary Arts at Lancaster University. Her doctoral research explores film adaptation in the process of crossing historical, national and gender borders. Her approach is interdisciplinary, interweaving such areas as Film Studies, Russian Studies, Adaptation Studies and Feminist Film Studies. The research is practice based and includes writing a screenplay and producing a short film as the result of theoretical findings.

Short film “Transgressing” aims to demonstrate how modern Dostoevsky’s novel can be for today's audiences. The film will raise a number of topical questions for modern Britain and the world: social inequality, freedom of religion or belief, freedom of education, council housing, freedom from abuse, #metoo movement, the student sex industry, intercultural diversity, to name but a few.

Anna holds a Masters degree in Screenwriting from Edinburgh Napier University. She is a screenwriter and a filmmaker with a number of credits in film and TV both in Russia and in the UK. The films she creates are about people who are facing moral challenges, ethical dilemmas, social inequality and fight for human rights. The filmmaking career she pursues has its roots in her strong belief on the impact and therefore the responsibility of cinema.
