Dr. Cao's research focuses on electric/hybrid vehicles, vehicle dynamics and control, and intelligent vehicles, where he has contributed 4 co-edited Journal Special Issues, 1 patent and about 70 papers. He received the ASME AVTT’2010 Best Paper Award and the 2012 SAE Arch T. Colwell Merit Award. Dr. Cao was a Canada NSERC and Ontario MRI Fellow at Waterloo Centre for Automotive Research (WatCAR), University of Waterloo between 2008 and 2011. He has been a Co-Investigator for two large-scale EV research projects: (i) Canada APC project ‘Next Generation Electric Vehicles: Development of Key Technologies and Full Vehicle Testing’, and (ii) Ontario ORF project ‘Green Intelligent Transportation Systems’, closely collaborating with GM R&D USA. Dr. Cao serves as an Editor for IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology and a Guest Editor for IEEE/ASME Transanctions on Mechatronics.
