Dr Ioannis Thanos is Senior Lecturer in Strategic Management, PhD Director and Dissertation Coordinator for the Department of Entpreneurship, Strategy and Innovation  at Lancaster University Management School, Lancaster University. He is the winner of the 2016 Lancaster University staff member award of the year (voted by LUMS students) and he was shortlisted for the 2017 Dean's Early Career Teacher award at LUMS (voted by faculty staff). He acts as Associate Editor of the European Management Journal, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK and Representative at Large of the Strategy Process interest group of the Strategic Management Society. Previously he was lecturer in Strategic Management and convenor of the MSc in International Business and Entrepreneurship at the University of Glasgow Adam Smith Business School, UK. He holds a BSc in Business Administration from the Athens University of Economics and Business, an MSc in Marketing and Strategy from the University of Warwick, a PhD in Strategic Management from the Athens University of Economics and Business in Greece and a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice from the University of Glasgow.

His research interests are in the areas of Strategic Decision Making, Mergers and Acquisitions and Internationalization Processes of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

He has published in several journals including: British Journal of Management, Journal of World Business, International Small Business Journal, International Business Review, International Journal of Human Resource Management, European Management Journal, Journal of Strategy and Management, Journal of General Management, five book chapters in edited volumes and books (Handbook of Decision Making, Wiley; Handbook of Mergers and Acquisitions, Oxford University Press; Advances in M&As, Emerald; Progress in International Business Research, Emerald, etc.) and has presented more than 20 papers in well-known international conferences including the Academy of Management Conference, the Strategic Management Society Conference, the British Academy of Management Conference, the European Academy of Management Conference, etc and has co-edited a special issue in the European Management Journal. 

He has received several nominations and distinctions for his research activities (e.g., nomination for the best conference paper award of the 2010 and 2012 Strategic Management Society conferences, and 2010 EIBA conference) and is the recipient of the 2015 Journal of Strategy and Management best paper award. He has also acted as track and session chair in several international conferences (e.g., Strategic Management Society, Euram, BAM) and has participated as principal researcher and international collaborator in several projects funded by the Greek Ministry of Education, the Athens University of Economics and Business and the UAEU National Research Foundation.

In addition, he has been shortlisted twice for prestigious student teaching awards at the University of Glasgow (2014/2015 and 2013/2014 University of Glasgow College of Social Sciences Best Teacher Award).
