Profile

Jianqiao Ye is a Professor and the Chair of Mechanical Engineering at Lancaster University and a member of the Lancaster Intelligent, Robotic and Autonomous Systems Centre (LIRA).

Jianqiao's research covers a broad range of both academic and industrial interests, including failure and damage of fibre reinforced composites, advanced steel-concrete composite structures, geopolymer, lighter and green cementitious materials, cement and concrete carbonation, offshore oil and gas structures and vibration energy harvesting. He has worked on testing, numerical modelling and optimization of a wide range of materials and structures, which has been extended to the applications of modern analytical instruments such as X-CT, SEM, XRD, EDS, and data-driven techniques, including metamodelling, machine learning and digital twins.

Jianqiao has collaborative research with a number of top research institutes around the world, including Syndey University, Australian National University, Nanyang Technological Univeristy, NPL, Stanford University, Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Wuhan University, Shenzhen University and Hefei Univesity of Technology. His contributions to industrial applications of composite materials and structures are also internationally recognised. His research has been supported by many leading UK and international funding bodies, such as the European Commission, EPSRC, RS, RAE, and  industrial companies, including Airbus, BAE Systems, Dunlop, DSTL, Force Technology,  ITASCA and QinetiQ.

Jianqiao has published three books and over 200 refereed papers in international journals and conferences proceedings. His papers have attracted over 7200 citations and an H-index of 48 (Google Scholar). He has been named a world's top 2% most influential scientist in the lists of the 'Lifetime Scientific Influence Ranking' and the '2023 Global Scientists Influence Ranking" published by Stanford University and Elsevier.

Jianqiao has been a regular reviewer, an editorial board member/editor of many international conferences and a number of refereed journals. He is also a member of the ASCE Stability Committee.

Engineering modules Jianqiao has taught at Lancaster University include Mechanics of Materials (ENGR111), Vibration Analysis and Applications (ENGR352), Fundamentals of Manufacturing (ENGR112) and Engineering Analysis (ENGR201). He is also an Engineering Program Consultant at Blackpool & Fylde College and the external examiner of the UG Mechanical/Sustainable Energy Engineering program at Queen Mary University of London.
