I am a PhD Candidate at DeLC, and currently have interest in prostitution and gender studies in African Literature.
The Literary Economy of Prostitution in Contemporary African Novels
My PhD research investigates the discourse of prostitution in contemporary African novels. I explore specifically the interface between literature and economics/the economy, and ask questions relating to economic exchanges among characters in a national/transnational context vis-à-vis the prostitution economy. Part of my aim is to examine literary prostitution as a mercantilist discourse and consider the implication of this in terms of the nature of the transaction/exchange, questions about value and identity, discourses relating to money and its metaphoric ambiences etc.
My research has always focused on African, especially Nigerian, literature; and I have a few publications on Achebe, Soyinka, Adichie etc.
My PhD is fully funded by a Lancaster University Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Postgraduate Research Studentship.

I have taught both formally and informally since my graduation. I got a lectureship at the University of Nigeria in 2009, and have been engaged with academic and administrative duties since then. Beside teaching, grading students’ papers and project supervision, I have devoted immense time to student mentoring and numerous committee assignments. I also do occasional academic editing.
