Profile

I am a historian of early modern empires, with specific expertise in the French empire and the European presence in the Indian Ocean. I am particularly interested in the role of trading companies in shaping the early modern world. I completed my PhD at King’s College London in 2020, before joining Lancaster University the same year.

I am currently working on my first monograph on the Compagnie des Indes or French Company of the Indies (1664-1769). The book argues that the Compagnie significantly reconfigured how state power could be imagined and exercised in both India and France.
