Current Research

Michal’s research activity is currently focused on development of neutron imaging system for nuclear decommissioning applications. Radioactive waste streams can contain neutron-emitting radioactive materials as a result of the mis-assignment of isotopic sources and nuclear material. It is often complicated and technically challenging to locate these materials whilst the use of 3He for neutron detection is constrained as this is now only produced in limited amounts. These issues necessitate the further development of techniques that can accurately locate such materials ensuring the minimum exposure to workers, improved accountancy and prevention of inadvertent releases to the environment.
