My research focuses on migrant care workers in the North West of England. It aims to understand the 'better life' experiences of women migrated to this part of the UK and working in the healthcare sector. The main critique of the thesis centred on how the immigration and labour regimes conflicted with the expectations of migrants for better lives. The migratory paths that the state lead them to jeopardise participants' sense of settlement and their capacity to make contributions to the country's care sector.
