My research interests primarily lie in (multimodal) critical discourse studies, corpus linguistics, media studies, and qualitative research methods. Based on these, my current research interests can be grouped into two main strands.

The first is gender and sexuality. I am particularly interested in how media discourses (such as those in newspapers and social media platforms) construct gender identities or negotiate gender-related issues. For example, I have been studying the representations of marginalised masculinities in media, the self-presentations of transnational (and interracial) families, and misogynistic discourse in online communication.

The second is health communication. I focus on how media (both official outlets and independent/self-media) employ discursive strategies to communicate health topics such as obesity, HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) and male sexual dysfunction, and how audiences respond to them. In addition to media discourse, I am also very interested in narratives that individuals construct around health-related topics in daily contexts.
