I matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge in 2012 and studied for the Mathematical Tripos there between that year and 2015. The third year of the course in particular provided a wide range of options for Statistics and Operational Research, and being the insatiable statmo that I am, I tried to do as much of this as possible, particularly enjoying Bayesian Inference, Dynamic Programming, Continuous-time Markov Chains and Stochastic Financial Models. My first exposure to STOR-I was in the summer of 2015 when I completed the internship programme, undertaking a project entitled ‘Regression, Curve Fitting and Optimisation’, supervised by Elena Zanini. After completing the MRes, I started my PhD in September 2016 where my Lancaster-based supervisers are Professors Idris Eckley and Paul Fearnhead. My project involves examining the changepoint problem in partnership with BT, where my supervisor is Dr Kjeld Jensen, and thereby building on the existing work of many other STOR-i and Lancaster students.
