Sandra is currently considering the role that ceremonial rituals play in contemporary societies by researching degree ceremonies in transcultural higher education settings.
Adopting a socio-material transcultural framework for this study requires a rejection of traditional conceptualisations of culture that have been heavily influenced by the idea of single cultures. Instead, transcultural perspectives encourage a view of cultures characterised by their dynamic entangled networks resulting from centuries of intermingling through classically defined cultural boundaries.
