Former Research Student

Thomas Burke

Profile

My research is being carried out in collaboration with LUC through the Centre for Global Eco-Innovation, and explores the use of GIS and remote sensing techniques to quantify, communicate and improve natural capital stocks and ecosystem service provision in UK farms and agricultural estates.

Prior to this I gained a first class MSci in Earth and Environmental Science, also at Lancaster, during which time I interned at Entrust Professional Services, gathering data for a new renewables planning system, and in the Lancaster Environment Centre, where I helped promote coastal research.

Other activities

I have helped deliver the following modules:

  • LEC 115 Geographical Skills in a Changing World (Fylde Coast fieldwork section) - Field demonstrating and marking
  • LEC 115 Geographical Skills in a Changing World (remote sensing section) - Marking
  • LEC 211 Spatial Analysis and Geographic Information Systems - Computer lab demonstrating
  • LEC 313 Coastal Processes - Computer lab demonstrating
  • LEC 402 Geoinformatics - Computer lab demonstrating
  • LEC 462 Data Assimilation and Integration - Computer lab demonstrating

I am also involved in the Science Hunters outreach project, and have helped deliver science outreach sessions on campus, in schools, and at community events such as the Geronimo Children's Festival, Lancashire Science Festival, and Lancaster University's Campus in the City.
