China and the Sea
Funded by the Pierre Du Bois Foundation for Current History, the project wishes to explore how cultural-historical approach can help us to further understand China's Emerging Sea Power. The project will focus on how the cultural-historical narratives on China Sea Power being re-invented in contemporary China's maritime policy. It will also break down the China Sea Power into three different layers, the state-level, the civilian-level and the ideational level, and compate to the Western traditional narratives on sea power, so as to discuss to what extent we could expect a "Sea power in China Characteristics" and its impact to regional and global order. This project is led by Dr. Basil Germond and a team of six researchers is involved in the project.
