Professor Cruickshank chaired the panel for AHRC’s 'Bridging Responsible AI Divides (BRAID) Fellowships' opportunity. As the first call of this type being led by the BRAID programme, but supported by AHRC, it was a novel experience for both applicants and panellists and entailed lots of reading material and complexity. This, combined with the need to marshal an interdisciplinary panel, represented a noteworthy chairing challenge. Professor Cruickshank did a superb job in understanding and interpreting the AHRC/BRAID brief for the call, and then translating this into a well-ordered, collaborative and collegial panel meeting that really made the best use of the experience and knowledge of the panellists. His balance of the practical aspects of the meeting, with ensuring robust and fair funding recommendations were made, was exemplary and he was highly praised by the panellists themselves. This was in addition to chairing a 'Design Exchange Partnerships' panel for AHRC only a few months prior.
