Professor Cruickshank was an excellent Chair for our ‘Follow-on Funding Round 3’ panel meeting in July 2024: keeping the panel to time; ensuring discussion was robust; and that scoring was based on the grading descriptors, referring to these frequently during the panel. Additionally, not long after the Round 3 panel meeting took place, Professor Cruickshank also accepted the role of Chair again for the Round 4 panel in November 2024. ‘Follow-on Funding Round 4’ was the penultimate panel meeting for the scheme, with a high volume of applications. Professor Cruikshank supported high-quality panel discussion and kept the panel to time excellently.
We appreciate that chairing panels requires a great deal of application reading prior to meetings, and Professor Cruickshank has shown excellent commitment to the role. We are very grateful for their contributions and continued support.

Professor Cruickshank was an invaluable panel Chair for the ‘Doctoral Focal Awards’ panel meeting. They understood the brief very quickly; managed the timings smoothly (especially with a high volume of applications); chaired in a balanced and fair way; and they were always cheerful and approachable. We recognise that Professor Cruickshank has chaired many panels recently and do not underestimate the vast amount of time and effort this takes. Of particular note for this panel was the need to undertake portfolio balancing which Professor Cruickshank also approached with positivity and supported AHRC in this process.
