Abstract

Developing shared stories: Reflections on therapeutic consultation for high risk young people

Young people within Youth Offending Services (YOS) have higher mental health needs than the general population but services are not commissioned to meet these needs. Young people and their families who access YOS often present in ‘crisis’ with limited systemic support to engage in structured therapeutic work. Dr Harper will present a thematic analysis of case consultations alongside qualitative interviews with YOS colleagues who participate in psychological consultation sessions. Challenges of providing clinical services beyond the therapy room through consultation and supervision will be discussed with tentative ideas to address these issues.
